Welcome! Glad to have you.

A publication of stories and techniques that leverage the observational skills developed over a lifetime of almost fitting in.

Memoirists who stumble over the question where are you from? are likely to fall flat on their faces when trying to answer the follow-up: What's your story?

You've been misunderstood your whole life; why would you expect anyone to get it now?

This publication shows you how to write an unconventional life in a way that connects with readers.

If you've started writing because you know you've had a story of a life, only to get stuck in the details that you suspect no one will understand because “you had to be there”; or you've lived in more countries than you have digits to count with and don't know how to create a writing container that holds them all; or your story is so wild that you're afraid people will accuse you of making it all up, you're in the right place.

I’m a book coach who serves memoir writers who have worked to create deep connection against all odds. I know the trust and vulnerability involved in sharing a story of my life experiences, only to be misunderstood, or worse, ignored.

In this publication, you will receive:

  • Book reviews for authors who wrote the thing you aspire to, titles to add to your to-read or comp list

  • Personal essays that model writing techniques you can try out today

  • Mindset coaching on how to reframe the assumption that no one will understand into curiosity for finding your best readers

  • Practical craft tips to level up your writing practice

  • Free and paid subscription access to community chat, where you can ask questions and connect with writers who are in process, just like you

Face yourself and your readers with generosity. Let me help you write your way forward.

About Me

Here are some relevant details about me that I might use in one of those cringe-worthy get-to-know-you games:

  • I’m an Author Accelerator certified book coach in memoir

  • I have an MFA in Writing for Children

  • I’ve had to get up in front of large groups of strangers and do public speaking in languages I was still learning (and pretend that I wasn’t unnerved at all)

  • My family tree of missionaries runs back a couple generations

  • I’m an urban Mennonite, not the kind who knows how to make cheese for a living (to the consternation of my Mexican in-laws)

How to Hire Me

I’m a book coach for memoir writers, specifically those who are writing “there and back again” tales of travel or cross-cultural experience. I get you from idea to book. Read more about me and my services on my website.
